Sandler: “I think it started with, ‘It would be nice if we did another one, and we were like, ‘That sounds cool.”
Aniston: “And if there’s a great idea, you know, especially when something does that well. Though it’s a tall order to try to match it.”
To the joy of fans everywhere, the pair loved being part of the movie as much as we all loved watching it, so it was an easy sell to bring them together for another go around.
What is Murder Mystery 2‘s synopsis?
Those already familiar with Murder Mystery will know that Nick and Audrey Spitz haven’t been lifelong detectives; in fact, Audrey was a hairdresser before their “dream” vacation, and her husband Nick, who had been lying to her about being a detective, was a police officer who couldn’t pass an important exam.
That being said, something natural happened when the events of the first film took place, and fans will be thrilled to know that they’ll have grown more official when we see them again.
The official synopsis for the film reads as follows:
“Now private detectives launching their own agency, Nick and Audrey Spitz land at the center of an international investigation when a friend is abducted.”
While Murder Mystery certainly had some exciting stunts, fans should look forward to more pizazz and power when Murder Mystery debuts on March 31, so much so that director Jeremy Garelick told Variety that Sandler’s stunts rival that of Tom Cruise, but Sandler isn’t ready to turn into an action star in this quarter of the game.
“Everything’s scary at 56 years old. You never know what the hell you’re gonna get up from. I’m sluggy, man. My body hurts. Jennifer is in good shape. I didn’t think I needed to get in shape before the movie but then when we were shooting, I was like, ‘Man, I should have gotten in shape.'”
In fact, Sandler did so much work throughout his last few films that when he was finished with Murder Mystery 2, he had to have a hip replacement.
“My god d— hip, I had to change that at the end of the movie. I had been doing so many movies in a row. I did Spaceman and I was hanging in harness all the time. I kept saying, ‘Something’s going on with my hip, man. I’m in trouble.’ And then during this and this other movie I did I was like, ‘Yeah, I definitely gotta x-ray that thing,’ and we were in trouble.”
It goes without saying that we’re in for an action-packed adventure in Murder Mystery 2.
Where can you watch Murder Mystery?
As we said above, Murder Mystery was the film that started it all for Nick and Audrey Spitz, and you can watch it now streaming on Netflix. If you’ve forgotten any of the moments in the hilarious and mysterious first film, you can catch up on the story before tuning into your own personal premiere of Murder Mystery 2.
What have Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston said about Murder Mystery 2?
Sandler and Aniston have been on a press tour leading up to the debut of Murder Mystery 2, and they’ve had a lot to say about the film. They’ve also had a lot to say about their friendship with one another, and the love they share is something next level.
Speaking to USAToday, Aniston reveals her favorite thing about Sandler, which might just bring a tear to your eye.
“He really takes care of me. When he loves you, he loves you deeply and cares for you deeply. So I always feel very taken care of.”
The two have been on several projects together and have been friends for three decades, so they know one another on a deeply personal level, and that friendship offscreen translates well to the characters they portray on-screen. Leaning into their decades-long friendship, they also had a hilarious moment on the carpet for the film’s premiere when Aniston saw Sandler’s get up.
“What the hell are you doing?! I’m not standing next to him in a sweatshirt and sweatpants.”
Sandler is known for dressing comfortably, not spending his riches on the newest designer clothes, and with the length of time they’ve known one another, Aniston had to be anticipating a relaxed red carpet look. In fact, Sandler claims that Aniston encouraged the look.
Aniston also talked about the fact that Sandler does many of his stunts in a chat with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, and Murder Mystery 2 brought him face to face with a blow from Mark Strong — and it was a strong hit (some pun intended.)
“Adam does a lot of his own stunts, and he gets pretty beat up. I mean, he actually got hit — did he ever tell you this? — Mark Strong actually hit him in the face.”
Last but not least, in the same interview with Entertainment Tonight, Aniston had a response that will make fans happy when asked about the likelihood of Murder Mystery 3.
“It depends on how everybody responds to this film, and if they enjoy themselves and had a good time, Netflix will hopefully say, ‘Yep.'”
Here’s hoping the next few months bring the announcement of the next grand adventure with the Spitz family; we know we’re ready for it. You can watch Murder Mystery on Netflix now, with Murder Mystery 2 debuting within the next few hours.
