The world doesn’t really need a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop, but we’re getting one anyways in the form of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which sounds like it will be just as bland and uninspired as the current moniker that it boasts. Andy Fickman will be on directing duties with Kevin James back to reprise his role as the titular hero.
This time around, Blart will take on art thieves while at a security guard expo in Las Vegas. Already set to co-star are Molly Shannon and Nick Turturro and today, THR brings us the news that Neal McDonough is in final negotiations to play the “mastermind of the elaborate heist.” His involvement is certainly a positive sign, given that he’s impressed in villainous roles before, but again, this all comes back to the question of do we really need a Paul Blart sequel?
I don’t know of anyone who enjoyed the first film (though its $183 million box office take might suggest otherwise). It was also critically panned and offered nothing fresh or original to the comedy genre. When you boil it down, the film was simply just a rehash of every other movie that Kevin James has ever done, except a lot dumber (and that’s really saying something).
Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 will start shooting in April, but does anyone really care?
