Last month, DC put on quite a show at San Diego Comic-Con, what with the unveiling of the first teaser for Shazam! and some unpolished Wonder Woman 1984 footage, but the pièce de résistance came in the form of the first trailer for James Wan’s Aquaman.
Although up to SDCC, mum had indeed been the word surrounding the subaquatic superhero flick, since Aquaman made the cannonball-sized splash inside Hall H, the ripple effect has continued to reveal sunken treasure. Toward the end of July, WB released a downright gorgeous gallery of hi-res stills, which featured Jason Momoa’s eponymous Atlantean, Amber Heard’s lionhearted Mera and Patrick Wilson’s austere supervillain Orm – who, by the way, will be making his cinematic debut.
Now, the tsunami of content has lapped into August, and we’ve got the latest look at the Queen of Atlantis and the Aquatic Ace side by side, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Dressed in their finest surface dweller attire, Mera and Arthur are pictured presumedly in search of something, as the pair are standing in front of some sort of bizarre contraption, which one can only speculate is integral to the story.
Unfortunately, while WB has done a bang-up job keeping Aquaman – for the most part – under lock and key, Jason Momoa, à la Tom Holland, let it slip recently that the final frame of the movie will feature the Rider of King Tide becoming “the thing he was destined to be.”
All in all, though, the film has remained mostly unspoiled, so, with that in mind, be sure to look for Aquaman – co-starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko – to flood your local multiplex on December 21st later this year.
