We’re still waiting to find out if the MCU has landed any Academy Award nominations this year, but should the announcements arrive on January 22nd with no mention of Avengers: Infinity War or Black Panther, then it could be a little awkward when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes show up for the ceremony, especially if they’re bringing an Avengers: Endgame trailer with them.
While no plans are confirmed yet, a new report from THR tells us that the Oscar team is currently scrambling to assemble as many Avengers as possible for the broadcast on February 24th, observing how the Academy, ABC and Disney all stand to benefit from the guest spots. But what’s more likely to get Marvel fans fired up for the ceremony is the hint that this could also be the occasion to drop “a nice promo” for the Infinity War sequel.
Timing-wise, the 24th would be a pretty reasonable time to release a second trailer, falling just over two months prior to the film’s release and just under two weeks in advance of Captain Marvel. Of course, this is hardly the only occasion on which the footage could premiere, with one alternative suggestion being the 53rd Super Bowl on February 3rd.
At the same time, there’s also the chance that the trailer won’t arrive until after the release of Captain Marvel, preventing the Endgame hype from overshadowing Marvel’s next release while potentially allowing the preview to somehow build on the revelations of Carol Danvers’ solo debut.
In any case, we’ll see what Marvel brings to the Academy – and for that matter, what the Academy brings to Marvel – when the 2019 ceremony airs on February 24th. After that, you can catch Captain Marvel in theaters from March 8th, followed by Avengers: Endgame on April 26th.
