The Creed films are all about the spotlight. Sharing it with the parent franchise, the mighty Rocky series, before Creed staked its own claim. As the franchise wrestles with the pressures that the spotlight brings, Creed III tests what you’re capable of when the spotlight threatens to become the backdrop of your downfall.
With what looks to be masterful work in front of and behind the camera from Michael B. Jordan, in his feature-length directorial debut, Creed III looks destined for the audience’s spotlight. The upcoming film’s brand new teaser trailer has continued to reinforce such an ethos.
With Jordan reprising his role as the eponymous heavyweight champion, the actor-director needed the best screen presence possible to help anchor the dramatic meat of Adonis “Donnie” Creed’s third outing. Enter Jonathan Majors, who looks set to prove that Ant-Man isn’t the only person he’ll be posing a threat to this year.
Creed III continues the story of Apollo Creed’s son and Rocky Balboa protégé Donnie (Jordan), who is now a father and husband. Firmly on top of the world, Donnie looks unstoppable until his past catches up with him in the form of Damian Anderson (Majors), Donnie’s childhood friend and former boxing prodigy who had his future ripped from him by way of a prison sentence. Seething with resentment, Damian sets his sights on triumphing over Donnie in the ring, setting our hero up for his most emotionally challenging bout yet.
Indeed, honor versus guilt looks to be the name of the game for Creed III, and we can watch it all unfold when the film releases in theaters on March 3.
