“We’re going to form a super-duper fucking group. And we’ll call ourselves…X-Force!”
Derivative though it may be, Wade Wilson and his ragtag group of crooks and time-traveling bandits are about to break new ground in Deadpool 2 with the formation of the X-Force, a collection of super-powered mutants with abilities to rival the Merc With a Mouth.
It’s all part of Fox’s plan to tee up the X-Force spinoff movie, which is already making headway under the direction of Drew Goddard, who knows a thing or two about blockbuster screenwriting thanks to his credits on Cloverfield, World War Z and The Martian. He also contributed to the screenplay underpinning Deadpool 2, so it should come as no surprise that Fox has elected him writer and director of X-Force, the feature adaptation of Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza’s eponymous comic.
And while we fully expect to catch some tongue-in-cheek references to X-Force come May, Fox has pumped out another Deadpool 2 promo today in which Wade Wilson hosts auditions for his, ahem, super-duper fucking group.
Heralding the return of Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Fox and David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 has upped the ante quite considerably no thanks to the casting of Zazie Beetz and Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin as Domino and Cable, respectively. And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, Terry Crews, Shioli Kutsuna, Julian Dennison and Bill Skarsgård are expected to round out the cast.
Initially scheduled to arrive at the start of July, David Leitch’s Deadpool 2 hits theaters on May 18th, by which point we should have a better understanding of X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the Simon Kinberg-directed threequel that recently slipped into 2019.
