We’re drawing closer and closer to the release of Gareth Edwards’Â Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as it’s set to hit theatres this December. As expected, we’re now starting to get a fair amount of information about the film, and in particular, we’ve been hearing a lot about Jedha, the new planet that’s set to be featured.
Edwards has already revealed a few details about it, telling us that it’s a holy site for Jedi and will be visited by Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and her crew in the film. Now, thanks to StarWars.com, we have even more information on the new planet.
A small desert moon frosted by a permanent winter, Jedha is home to one of the first civilizations to explore the nature of the Force. At one time a world important to the Jedi Order, Jedha serves as a holy site for pilgrims from across the galaxy who seek spiritual guidance. Now, the Empire occupies Jedha, and a prolonged battle between Imperial forces and scattered Rebels carries on in the timeworn streets.
It’s been widely speculated that one of the aforementioned pilgrims is Donnie Yen’s Chirrut Imwe, who’s not a Jedi but is certainly in touch with the Force. Fans also believe that Jedha is home to Kyber crystals, which are used in lightsabers and other weapons in the Star Wars universe, making them a valuable commodity that the Empire would certainly like to get their hands on.
Of course, this remains as pure speculation for now, but all will hopefully be revealed when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story lands in theatres on December 16th, with a cast that boasts Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen and James Earl Jones.
