With the annual Super Bowl due to take place on Sunday, studios will be clamouring for their share of the limelight in order to parade cinematic sizzle reels for a worldwide audience. But due to this bottleneck, some companies have jumped the gun by releasing new trailers and teasers for their properties ahead of schedule, much like Tomorrowland and Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genisys.
And the latest motion picture to join that pre-game category is Robert Schwentke’s upcoming sequel Insurgent, the second cinematic installment based on Veronica Roth’s best-selling novels. Though this clip doesn’t feature any footage from the movie itself, the teaser does a good job of reintroducing our protagonist as we inch ever closer to the film’s release.
Picking up directly where Divergent left off, the sequel will once again follow the adventures of Tris and Four — played by Shailene Woodley and Theo James, respectively — as they go toe-to-toe with the Erudite Elite. Such a feat will have them venture across the remnants of a post-apocalyptic Chicago.
Joining Woodley and James for the follow-up are Naomi Watts, Miles Teller, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer along with Kate Winslet as the nefarious Jeanine, the corrupt head of the aforementioned organization.
Insurgent is scheduled to hit theaters on March 20, 2015. In the meantime, you can share your early impressions on the upcoming sequel in the comments section below.
THE DIVERGENT SERIES: INSURGENT raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago. Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) are now fugitives on the run, hunted by Jeanine (Winslet), the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite. Racing against time, they must find out what Tris’s family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them. Haunted by her past choices but desperate to protect the ones she loves, Tris, with Four at her side, faces one impossible challenge after another as they unlock the truth about the past and ultimately the future of their world.
