With Justice League imminent, it’ll be some time yet before Warner Bros. turns its attention toward Fantastic Beasts 2. But that hasn’t stemmed the tide of Instagram photos.
First spotted by Digital Spy, the sequel’s official social media account has now shared a rather intriguing photo to promote Newt Scamander’s upcoming book tour. It’ll be held at Obscurus Books, the fictional publisher that has been a cornerstone of Diagon Alley since 1926, though the Harry Potter faithful are more concerned with how this relates to the theory involving Ezra Miller’s Credence Barebone.
Soon after the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them late last year, a deleted scene showed Credence escaping New York City (alongside Newt, perhaps?). That’s led some fans to believe that Miller’s character will go on to become an ally to Newt Scamander in time for Fantastic Beasts 2, while the following photo brought the caption: “A newly published author must have a book launch party. Newt Scamander has been busy.”
The exact history of Obscurus Books is still shrouded in mystery, though we imagine David Yates and screenwriter J.K. Rowling, who have reteamed for Fantastic Beasts 2 following the original’s landmark success, will deliver the answers fan so crave late next year.
As for that aforementioned Credence theory, we have Reddit user ‘SatyrSaturn’ to thank for this speculative tidbit:
My theory is that Newt will save Credence from his Obscurus. Since Credence helped Mary Lou print all those flyers and pamphlets for the Second Salemers. I predict that he will go into publishing, and [then] publishes Newt’s book.
Angled as the second chapter in a five-part prequel saga, Fantastic Beasts 2 will hit theaters on November 18th, 2018. From what we understand, the title format will follow the Harry Potter franchise in that ‘and where to find them’ will be replaced with another more suitable subtitle in due time.
