If you’ve been watching the Rio Olympics on television, you may have noticed a short TV spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It didn’t feature any new footage, but it did reveal that a brand new trailer for Gareth Edwards’ film will be airing on Thursday during the games (which was then later on confirmed by the official Star Wars Twitter account).
We’re not sure yet what Disney plans to show off with the new footage, but it’s a smart move on their part to release another preview. There’s been a lot of bad press surrounding Rogue One lately, what with news that Tony Gilroy has had to step in for Edwards and supervise the reshoots and most of the edits. It’s unclear how much control he has and whether Edwards has had any say at all in the proceedings lately, but there’s clearly some sort of trouble brewing on the set of the upcoming Star Wars film.
[zergpaid]As such, all eyes will be on the new Rogue One trailer to see what kind of tampering Disney has done with it since we last saw footage from the highly anticipated flick. We’re hopeful that the studio has learnt a lesson from the recent disasters that were Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad, which both suffered from Warner Bros. making too many cuts, but in this day and age, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Disney presenting a more watered down and family friendly version of Edwards’ film, in order to attract the largest audience possible.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16th, 2016. Tell us, have you lost hope in the film yet? Sound off below and let us know.
