It seems that yesterday’s first teaser for Toy Story 4 opened the floodgates for this upcoming Pixar sequel’s promotion, with a new clip arriving hot on its heels that introduces us to two fluffy new characters.
Things get a little meta in this latest promo, viewable above, which sees carnival toys Ducky (Keegan-Michael Key) and Bunny (Jordan Peele) reacting to the first trailer before struggling to remember Buzz Lightyear’s catchphrase. When Buzz and Woody themselves show up to remind them that it’s “To infinity and beyond,” the newcomers laugh off the idea for its mathematical impossibility.
But the new goods don’t stop there, with Pixar also releasing a summary of who these Ducky and Bunny characters are, and the roles they’ll be playing in the movie:
“Woody’s journey in Toy Story 4 includes a visit to a carnival where he meets Ducky and Bunny, two carnival prizes who are eager to be won. But when their plans are rudely interrupted by Woody and his friends, they find themselves on an unexpected adventure with a group of toys who have no idea what it feels like to be tacked to a prize wall.”
If all this wasn’t enough for one morning, we also have a few new posters to add to the Woody image we got yesterday. In this new batch is a shot of Buzz in profile, as well as a print that puts the spotlight on Key and Peele’s characters. What’s more, it seems there’s a whole poster dedicated to Forky, the the jittery plastic fork who popped up unexpectedly in yesterday’s trailer and experienced an existential crisis of sorts about whether he even is a toy.
As well as raising some intriguing questions about the logic of toy consciousness in this world, Tony Hale’s character looks to be playing a key role in the film’s story, with the new synopsis reading as follows:
“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Directed by Josh Cooley (“Riley’s First Date?”) and produced by Jonas Rivera (“Inside Out,” “Up”) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer “Inside Out”), Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 4 ventures to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.”
So, it looks like another road trip is on the cards for the old gang, and speaking of series traditions, if the warnings of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are anything to go by, then we could also be in for one tearjerker of a finale when Toy Story 4 comes out on June 21st.
