On June 21st, Michael Bay will unveil his latest (and potentially greatest?) entry into Paramount’s live-action juggernaut franchise. Word is that Transformers: The Last Knight will go down as the director’s last dalliance with those beloved robots in disguise, but with rumblings of multiple Transformers spinoff movies kicking into gear over at the studio, don’t be too surprised if (when?) the filmmaker changes his mind.
Not only has Paramount drawn up plans for a Bumblebee-centric spinoff – Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight has been appointed at the helm of that one – in 2018, but with a staggering 14 Transformers pitches reportedly doing the rounds, the franchise isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The only question left now is whether Michael Bay will pull another U-turn in order to dabble in the TF universe once again. Stay tuned for more on that one, but in the meantime, we’ve got a new trailer for you to feast your eyes on today.
Seen above, it places a heavy focus on the film’s historical aspects while also delivering a barrage of action, giving us a look at the Bayhem that’s headed our way, in all its over the top glory. Not only that, but there’s also some brief glimpses of new footage in here as well, along with an ominous tease from Anthony Hopkins at the end, as he tells us, “For a thousand years we’ve kept it hidden … the secret history of Transformers.” Color us intrigued.
Casting-wise, the studio has recruited a who’s who of A-list talent for The Last Knight, including Hollywood’s bankable supporting star John Goodman – he’s back in the booth to voice Hound, the hulking Autobot and healer – alongside the returning Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel. There’s also room in the film’s ranks for Anthony Hopkins, Stanley Tucci, Jerrod Carmichael, Laura Haddock and Isabela Moner as the street-smart tomboy, Izabella.
“Two species at war – one flesh, one metal.” Transformers: The Last Knight will roar to life on June 21st, and it’ll herald something of a new chapter for Paramount’s CG-laden juggernaut.
