UPDATE: These photos have been removed. Apologies for any inconvenience.
At long last, things are finally underway on Captain Marvel. Production has now kicked off and while Brie Larson is currently occupied at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada, Atlanta is playing host to the rest of the cast, where shooting is underway. And to prove it, the first batch of set photos have arrived online tonight, featuring none other than Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill).
The pics come to us courtesy of Just Jared, who claim that the project the two actors are working on is a mystery Marvel movie. However, given that Avengers 4 has already wrapped, and we know that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s spinoff is supposed to start shooting around the start of February, it makes the most sense that these images are from Captain Marvel. Besides, which other in-development film from the studio would feature Fury and Hill?
Take a look for yourself and see what you think:
Unfortunately, there’s nothing particularly revealing about what we have here, but given that it’s early, early days, we’ll take what we can get. What’s interesting, though, is that Samuel L. Jackson has his eyepatch on, despite the fact that the actor has already mentioned that he won’t be wearing it in Captain Marvel. As such, you could suggest that something else is being shot in these pics – again, maybe Avengers 4? – but it’s also possible that part, or maybe just a scene or two, of the Brie Larson-led flick might take place in the present day, when Fury has his patch.
In regards to what we else can expect from the movie, well, apparently we’ll get to return to the Quantum Realm, which was first introduced back in 2015’s Ant-Man, and gain “a better understanding of Carol Danvers and her place in the MCU.” Beyond that though, details on the project have been hard to come by and we don’t expect to learn anything more for quite a while – given how packed the studio’s upcoming slate is.
Captain Marvel graces theaters on March 8th, 2019. There’s a good chance we’ll see Brie Larson take flight as Carol Danvers shortly before, too – not unlike Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther made his debut via Civil War – what with rumors claiming the Oscar winner will crop up in Infinity War. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have denied that, mind you, but when it comes to this kind of stuff, you never really know, right?
