Last night at the Empire Movie Awards, Prometheus actress Noomi Rapace was in attendance where she picked up the Actress award for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. While there, Empire got a chance to talk to her about Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi film, which started shooting a week ago. Rapace will play Elizabeth Shaw, the lead character and despite being restricted on very big details she did give away some interesting nuggets.
Firstly around the whole Alien franchise connection, what she says seems to support what co-star Michael Fassbender said over a month ago, there is a definite connection:
Yes, kind of. What I like so much about the Alien movies is that they’re out there in space and it’s weird, but [the characters] are very human and very down to earth. That’s what [Ridley] created and that’s who he is, and I think we’ll probably see that again on this one.
She also talked about her character which sounds very much like Ripley from the previous Alien movies:
She’s not that damaged which for me is kind of nice. She has an inner strength that is quite beautiful and a pureness too. She’s very obsessed with finding out something.
Empire say the ‘something’ was only elaborated on to a certain extent, calling it a “vocarious xenomorph”. Xenomorph is a phrase which constantly came up in relation to the Alien of the previous franchise, in fact that is what the creature was sometimes called. I have to say I am excited for this, the cast is great and Scott is a wonderful visual stylist and I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Prometheus is due for release June 1st 2012 in 3D.
