Louis Leterrier, director of Now You See Me, will be directing the film’s sequel that was announced earlier this month, in case you were worried that some new director would step up and make the plot less complicated. Leterrier, who also directed 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and Clash of the Titans, won’t be writing the sequel but will be involved with the overall story.
Now You See Me, which opened to mixed reviews, was a box office success, earning over $300 million worldwide. But don’t let your jaded heart fool you; according to Leterrier, a sequel was part of the plan way before the film made lots and lots of cash:
“We had a scene that we kept and when Lionsgate and Summit said, ‘Yeah, let’s do a sequel,’ I said, ‘Okay let’s put it on the DVD and do the longer cut,'” adding later, “It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I’m very much involved in it.”
This notion makes the future for the sequel seem just a bit brighter, and perhaps, maybe a second film could even best its predecessor, utilizing the greatest magic of all: hindsight. The DVD/Blu-Ray for the film comes out on September 3rd, so we’ll have to wait until then to see Leterrier’s noted scene.
Personally, while I thought that the original had its problems, I would probably watch Mark Ruffalo in any film directed by anyone and am simply glad to hear that this sequel is still going strong, though it is nice to see that there will likely be consistency between the two films.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to the Now You See Me sequel?
