New Line just released a new red-band trailer for its upcoming Vacation reboot, revealing that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s update of the classic comedy has just as dirty a mind as its inspiration.
Ed Helms stars in the remake as a grown-up Rusty Griswold who decides to honor tradition by taking his family on a precarious road trip to Walley World. Of course, shenanigans ensue, and this trailer indicates that many of the gags will be of a very R-rated variety.
Whether that will actually make them funny is another question entirely. The opening gag falls a little flat (though it may be funnier in the context of the finished film), and there’s only so much sexual humor that can be employed before it starts to grate. But there are talented thesps involved here, so it may be advisable just to let them go with it and reserve all judgment until the pic hits theaters.
Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Nick Kroll, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and Regina Hall all co-star in Vacation, which opens July 29.
The next generation of Griswolds is at it again. “Vacation,” starring Ed Helms (“The Hangover” films) and Christina Applegate (the “Anchorman” films), takes the family on the road for another ill-fated adventure. Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.
