Megatron, the harbinger of death that has loomed large over Paramount and Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise ever since its inception, is on the verge of a return for next year’s blockbuster sequel, Transformers: The Last Knight.
That’s according to an ominous teaser shared via the movie’s official Twitter account, showcasing a close up of the devious Decepticon glowering at the camera replete with a booming, mechanical grumble. It’s a snippet that tees up The Last Knight entering production – because apparently that’s a thing now – and in turn portends all kinds of danger for our Autobot heroes. A battle is coming, it seems.

So, there you have it; unlike early speculation, it appears the Decepticon that Bay is teasing is in fact Megatron, and not a robot from the Beast Wars: Transformers series as many had suggested.
Returning to the franchise after his turn in 2014’s Age of Extinction is Mark Wahlberg, teeing up a screen partnership between Cade Yeager and Lt. William Lennox, after Josh Duhamel closed a deal to return to the Transformers series. Elsewhere, Nickelodeon starlet Isabela Moner and Jerrod Carmichael round out the preliminary cast.
Transformers: The Last Knight will reveal all of its robots in disguise when Michael Bay’s sequel descends on theaters come June 17, 2017. It’ll be followed in quick succession by Transformers 6 – said to be a Bumblebee spinoff – on June 8, 2018, before another installment arrives in time for June 28, 2019.
