Original Chunk Actor Rules Himself Out Of The Goonies 2

The Truffle Shuffle was undoubtedly one of the most memorable scenes from Richard Donner's beloved 1985 classic The Goonies - in fact, it was so popular that the house that staged the hilarious stunt was shut down after the owner grew tired of fans recreating the famous sequence on the lawn. But if long-gestating sequel The Goonies 2 wants to pay homage to the Truffle Shuffle, it'll need to find another actor.

The truffle shuffle was undoubtedly one of the most memorable scenes from Richard Donner’s beloved 1985 classic The Goonies – in fact, it was so popular that the house that staged the hilarious stunt was shut down after the owner grew tired of fans recreating the famous sequence on the lawn. But if long-gestating sequel The Goonies 2 wants to pay homage to the truffle shuffle, it’ll need to find another actor.

While Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, and Josh Brolin have all expressed the interest in returning for the follow-up, Jeff Cohen (aka Chunk) has ruled himself out of reprising his role. Speaking in an interview with Yahoo, the original truffle shuffle star squashed hopes that he would be appearing alongside his fellow friends once again.

Look, being an actor is great, I miss being an actor. I think anyone who’s been an actor, you kind of miss it even if you were just in school plays. You miss it because it was a fun experience. But I think I’m going to stick with the entertainment-law thing. That seems to be working out.

Now that a full three decades have passed since the release of The Goonies, it’s hardly surprising that some of its original cast members are less than keen about the long-rumored sequel. Indeed, it’s an apprehension felt by most fans of the original classic, too, with many believing that the old tale of friendship and adventure should be left untouched.

Admittedly, this is the first update on The Goonies 2 in some time, and the last time Richard Donner was quoted on development was in relation to the off-Broadway show. But that doesn’t mean that the sequel is dead in the water. During the same feature, Yahoo posited the status of the follow-up to Donner, to which he replied.

Maybe. Again, everything takes a long time to get it right. If you do things fast and quick and easy, that’s a disservice. But if there were going to be another movie it would take us a long time to get it right, because we have a lot of history that we’re involved with and a lot of integrity that we have to keep to what once was, and lives a life of its own without destroying it. Maybe the powers that be are working on something.

The Goonies 2 continues to creep closer and closer to release, but without any tangible signs of development as of yet, don’t get your hopes up for word of a release date.
