Oscar Isaac is a star on the rise. After strong supporting roles in Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive, and Zack Snyder‘s Sucker Punch, and being cast in The Bourne Legacy, Isaac has scored the lead role in the Coen Brothers’ next film, Inside Llewyn Davis.
The folk music film will follow “Llewyn Davis’ struggles as a folk musician during the genre’s 1960s heyday in New York City”. The character Llewyn Davis is loosely based on folk singer Dave van Ronk who presided over the Greenwich Village scene in the 1960s.
Many people believe Isaac is an unusual choice for the Coen Brothers, whose previous leading actors of late have included Jeff Bridges, George Clooney and Tommy Lee Jones, but if Isaac’s recent performances are anything to go by, he will be able to handle the role with ease.
Inside Llewyn Davis will begin shooting early next year, for a late 2012 release.
