Oscar-winning MCU director rumored for a live-action Disney remake that would genuinely be worth getting excited about for once

Even if it's not true, somebody needs to make it sooner rather than later.

The announcement of any live-action Disney remake generally tends to draw eye-rolls and exasperation more than excitement these days, which is entirely fair enough considering the quantity over quality approach has beginning to wear mighty thin in recent years.

However, there’s one animated project that’s been deserving of the live-action treatment for years which can’t quite seem to claw its way out of development hell, and it’s the phenomenal fan favorite series Gargoyles. The dark Gothic fantasy is held up as one of the Mouse House’s most daring modern efforts, and not even battles behind the scenes over the creative direction of the story could prevent it from going down as a classic.

If there was any justice in the world, Gargoyles would have been a full-scale blockbuster a long time ago, but for whatever reason it simply hasn’t happened. However, rumors are stirring that an Academy Award-winning filmmaker could be in the mix, with whisperings sweeping the internet claiming that Thor and Murder on the Orient Express’ Kenneth Branagh is being lined up to wield the megaphone.

It’s been reported by the actor, writer, director, and producer’s local newspaper Belfast Telegraph, but there’s no sourcing or attribution, so it’s hardly a concrete confirmation. Either way, regardless of whether or not there’s a shred of truth to Branagh being the person to finally bring Gargoyles to the big screen, let’s hope it stirs up renewed sentiment for Disney to get the finger out and make it happen at the very least.
