The Ouija Movie Gets New Writers And Directors

Today we have word that Universal has hired Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, both of whom are most known for helping co-write the underrated film Knowing, to take over writing and directing duties on the film.

Despite Battleship being a pretty big sign that films based off of board games don’t work very well, Universal has chosen to move ahead with the Ouija movie. That’s right, a film based off of the board game where you and your friends move a planchette around on a board with all the letters of the alphabet, along with the numbers 0-9, and some simple answers like yes, no, hello, and good bye, in an attempt to communicate with spirits. Sounds like it would make a great movie, right? What could possibly go wrong? I don’t think you need a Ouija board to tell you the answer.

The film’s original drafts were written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz back when it was thought it would be a big budget film at Universal. However, the film then moved to Paramount where McG became attached to direct. Budget issues caused him to leave the project, which eventually ended up in turnaround before going back to Universal, who reacquired it in March. Now the film is being reimagined as a low-budget movie.

At this time, plot details are being kept under wraps, although we can probably expect something along the lines of the Paranormal Activity films, because there are certainly not enough of those types of movies out there.

Universal is expected to release Ouija sometime in 2013.
