As expected, the Oz The Great and Powerful trailer has arrived, straight from Comic-Con. Full of fantastical CG visuals, elaborate sets, lavish costumes and a whole bunch of trippy imagery, Sam Raimi‘s upcoming prequel to The Wizard of Oz looks like one hell of a fun ride.
The hyper coloured trailer doesn’t give away much about the plot, but it does give us some good looks at the main cast (James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams), all of whom look to be having a great time. The whole thing looks absolutely gorgeous and one the big screen, this is going to be one great looking film.
On a story level though, I fear it may suffer a similar fate as Alice In Wonderland. Admittedly, that wouldn’t be such a bad thing for the mouse house, seeing as “Alice” did extremely well at the box office, but for us in the audience, it could be very upsetting.
Though Tim Burton‘s adaptation was easy on the eyes, it was an absolute snooze-fest. I’m really hoping that Oz The Great and Powerful has some substance under all that style.
For those unfamiliar with the movie, check out the plot summary below:
The story centers on Franco’s small-time circus magician with dubious ethics who finds himself transported to Oz and drawn into a battle between the three witches Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams).
Oz the Great and Powerful opens on March 8th, 2013. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think in the comments.
