Pacific Rim: Uprising Art Offers First Look At Remodeled Jaegers

Legendary Entertainment has lifted the suitably huge lid on the first Pacific Rim: Uprising artwork, which offers up a peek at the remodeled jaegers.

We’ve already seen the two principal pilots that will be climbing into the futuristic cockpit (read: John Boyega and Suicide Squad‘s Scott Eastwood), but now it’s time to welcome the towering Jaegers of Pacific Rim: Uprising into the spotlight.

Legendary Entertainment has premiered a suitably stylish poster for Steven S. DeKnight’s upcoming creature feature, which maintains the propaganda-like aesthetic found in Guillermo del Toro’s cult original. Front and center is a remodeled version of Gipsy Danger, all but confirming that those early rumors were indeed on point.

Gipsy’s return makes sense, too; from what we’ve heard about Uprising‘s plot, DeKnight’s sequel takes place a few years after the initial Kaiju invasion of Pacific Rim, at a time when the governments of the world are beginning to use the Jaegers against one another as opposed to beasts from another dimension. Cue the inevitable Kaiju resurgence, forcing the Pan Pacific Defense Corps to assemble a fresh team of heroes – Nate Lamber (Eastwood) and Jake Pentecost (Boyega) included – in order to pump fresh blood into the Jaeger program and send those otherworldly nasties packing.

With that in mind, though the original model was essentially obliterated at the tail-end of Pacific Rim – repurposed to be a handy WMD – it looks certain that the United States will engineer Gipsy Danger 2.0 in time for Pacific Rim: Uprising. Rounding out the human cast are Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and definitely not Karl Urban.

Currently lensing Down Under, Pacific Rim: Uprising is on course to hit theaters on February 23rd, 2018.
