Patrick Warburton will play a sexually confused rent-a-car employee named Guy in Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy Ted. Warburton joins a growing cast that already includes Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi and Joel McHale. Ted revolves around a slacker (Wahlberg) and his talking teddy bear (voiced by MacFarlane).
Warburton is more than his superhero good looks; he’s a comedy heavyweight. He actually played a bumbling superhero on the short-lived TV series The Tick and in the past few years has done voice work in numerous projects including MacFarlane’s irreverent animated series Family Guy. It’s little surprise he landed a role on Ted given his working relationship with MacFarlane. The part may even have been written with Warburton in mind, as Deadline reported the script called for “a burly Patrick Warburton type” for the role of Guy.
This Universal Pictures/Media Rights Capital comedy will no doubt feature plenty of low-brow comedy and gross out jokes, considering MacFarlane is not only directing and starring in it, but wrote the script. Wahlberg will play an emotionally stunted man who made a Christmas wish when he was a boy that his teddy bear would come to life and be his best friend. Twenty years later and his teddy bear is a hedonistic, chain-smoking loser who keeps him from growing up. Here’s hoping Ted isn’t going to be a silly comedy version of The Beaver.
What do you think? Looking forward to the film?
