Deadline is reporting tonight that casting has picked up for James Wan’s Aquaman, with Patrick Wilson snagging the role of Orm, the titular hero’s half-brother. He’ll join a cast that already includes Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe.
Those of you familiar with Wilson will know full well that he’s no stranger to comic book movies, having starred in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen as Nite Owl and almost nabbing a role in Marvel’s Ant-Man. He’s also no stranger to James Wan, as the two have worked together on The Conjuring and its sequel, The Conjuring 2, as well as the first two Insidious films.
[zergpaid]As for Wilson’s role in Aquaman, he’ll be playing the villainous Orm, who, like we mentioned above, is half-brother to the King of Atlantis. Exact details on how large his role will be are still unclear, though it sounds as if he may be the primary, but not only, antagonist. He’s described as a powerful opponent and has a strong sibling rivalry with Aquaman, similar to the one we’ve seen between Thor and Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Though Wan had previously teased that he had a role for Wilson in the film, it’s still nice to get confirmation of it. He’s a dependable actor who’s given several strong performance in his career and deserves to land a part in a big blockbuster like this. It’s unknown if Wilson will only appear once or if his contract extends to several DCEU films, but we certainly hope it’s the latter.
Aquaman will swim into theatres on October 5th, 2018, and if we’re to believe Wan, fans won’t ever look at the titular hero the same way again once they’ve seen it.
