Such is the breathless pace of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that it’s often the case that viewers are still reeling from one film – like, say, Black Panther – and the Powers That Be are on the verge of launching the next. Or, at the very least, stoking the embers of excitement.
Take Ant-Man and the Wasp as an example. The Peyton Reed-directed sequel currently finds itself smack bang in the middle of two Marvel titans, and we’ve since learned that the movie shares some connective tissue with the so-far untitled Avengers 4.
On a more personal level, lead star Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) spoke to ComicBook.com recently about what it was like to transition between Ant-Man and the Wasp and the next ensemble movie involving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Well, you know, again, it’s a bit of a surreal feeling. Also, we’re filming everything kind of in the same place. Just even in passing, it’s like, ‘Oh, hey Benedict.’ Yeah, it’s cool. It feels a little bit like you’re a part of something, and part of a group, and it’s nice. Everybody’s very cool, very nice, but it’s just still so surreal to me.
And while his co-star Evangeline Lilly is very much looking forward to her next MCU outing as the Wasp – word is she’s even filmed some scenes for a future movie – Paul Rudd went on to admit that he isn’t privy to all of Marvel’s secrets.
I knew some things. I know some things. Also, understanding, being one of the writers, I have to know certain things anyway. But there are also things that I don’t know, that people are like, ‘Oh, Marvel’s very good at kind of keeping secrets from the public.’ Well, you know what? They’re also pretty good at keeping secrets from their employees!
As things stand, Avengers 4 is booked in for release on May 3rd, 2019 – you know, assuming Marvel Studios doesn’t bring its worldwide launch date into late April à la Infinity War – by which point viewers will be acquainted with Carol Danvers, the MCU newcomer better known as Captain Marvel.
