Might we see Grand Moff Tarkin return to a galaxy far, far away? We just may, if the Daily Mail Online is correct. According to them, Peter Cushing will indeed return as the ruthless Grand Moff Tarkin for Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Yes, the legendary actor passed away back in 1994 at the age of 81, but death clearly isn’t quite the handicap it used to be in Hollywood.
Apparently, the plan is to recreate the character with Cushing’s likeness using the latest computer-generated wizardry. “This is one of the most complex and costly CGI re-creations ever,” a source told the site. “Cushing is a pivotal plot line as he was the one to create Darth Vader and there’s a whole backstory that will come out.”
[zergpaid]We’ve already heard that Vader will make an appearance in the film, so it does make sense that Tarkin would be, to quote a Princess, holding his leash – but some feel bringing Cushing back in this manner is somewhat disrespectful to his memory.
Anyways, it’s still just a rumor for now, but the Mail do tend to be spot on with their scoops most of the time, so it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Alan Tudyk, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker and Riz Ahmed, and is set to hit theaters on December 16, 2016.
