Ever since Peter Parker’s classmate Michelle mentioned that her friends call her MJ, a romance between this pair has been widely predicted, and based on the various pics and clips we’ve been seeing from the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home, it looks like the two of them could be spending a lot of time together.
Just take this new video, which has Zendaya sharing the screen with Peter’s masked alter ego. In this footage from the New York leg of shooting, Spidey carries Michelle safely to the ground, presumably after another life-threatening incident, before they have a brief exchange of words.
While some of it is hard to make out, you can hear the wall-crawler asking MJ if she’s okay. A few seconds later, the meeting ends in a slightly uncomfortable high five before Peter tells her that he’s gotta go. The web-slinger then exits the encounter by jumping about half a foot into the air – a moment that will probably look a lot less goofy once the FX have been put in.
There’s not a lot to be learned from these barely audible lines, but what’s really been earning the attention of the internet is the costume Tom Holland dons in this scene. The red-and-black outfit is one of two new getups we’ve seen Peter wear during the shooting of this Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, the other being the dark stealth suit he wore while in Europe. Generally speaking, this latest design has been well-received by fans, though some are starting to grow weary of the ongoing series of wardrobe changes that the character has undergone in these last couple of years.
In any case, we’ll find out the what becomes of Peter and MJ’s relationship, and whether Spidey has a good reason for his recent change of clothes, when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
