In my view, something that’s helped to hold the interest of those following Marvel movies in recent years has been a clear picture of where the line of flicks will be headed. I mean, after you’ve sat through one of them, you know what to expect immediately following that and, perhaps, what’s on the horizon for the next year or two.
Oddly enough, we can’t say the same for what’s on the agenda after next year’s Avengers 4, save for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 – and we expect for both of those flicks to be rechristened before opening in cinemas. Still, True Believers everywhere are champing at the bit hoping to know what Phase 4 will bring.
Well, according to Marvel Studios’ boss Kevin Feige, no one should hold their breath. Here’s what he had to say when recently speaking with Den of Geek:
“We won’t do anything until after this time next year. After that, I think we’ll announce where we’re going. But we did a very big announcement in 2014 where we announced a lot of movies, and we added a few movies to it after that announcement. But it really felt important that we deliver on that before we do a big showcase of whatever is to come.”
While that does make some sense, we imagine that cameras could begin rolling on certain Phase 4 offerings before then – and it could be hard to keep those under wraps. Really, if we get wind of, say, something being shot by James Gunn, then it’s probably safe to say it’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which my gut tells me will drop during May of 2020. Plus, there’s that Black Widow solo outing we keep hearing about.
As for Avengers 4 – or whatever it ultimately ends up being called – that’ll arrive in theaters on May 3rd, 2019, so perhaps that knowledge will give you a better picture of the timetable we’re on.
