Phil Lord And Chris Miller Will Not Direct Ghostbusters III

Not too long ago we heard that directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller were in talks to helm Ghostbusters III for Sony. It made sense given the fact that not only have they had a lot of success with the studio thus far (21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), but their comedic sensibilities and impressive creativity would fit in perfectly with the mega-popular franchise. Unfortunately, it looks like the negotiations fell through as The Wrap's Jeff Sneider is now reporting that the studio is meeting with other directors.

Though I’m not a huge Ghostbusters fan, I can definitely see why this is disappointing news. Given Miller and Lord’s track record, they really would have been the perfect pick to take an older franchise and reboot it into something fresh and exciting. I have no doubt that Sony will still be able to bring a talented director on board to helm the sequel, but at this point in time at least, it doesn’t look like it will be Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

As for what the dynamic directing duo is up to next, they’re keeping their options open. They haven’t committed to any projects past 22 Jump Street (which is now in post) but considering how hot they are at the moment, I don’t imagine it will be long before we hear of what they’re going to tackle next.

Check out Sneider’s Tweets below and let us know if you’re sad to see Phil Lord and Chris Miller walk away from Ghostbusters III.
