If you haven’t had enough of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean films then you’re in luck. According to Caribbean Business, production on a fifth installment in the film franchise will begin this November in Puerto Rico. This confirms that not only is a fifth film coming our way, but it’ll be in theaters sooner than we thought.
Disney’s been quiet about a followup to Pirates of the Carribbean: On Stranger Tides since the film’s co-writer Terry Rosio submitted a script for a possible sequel last year. Evidently, the fact that the last installment grossed over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office convinced Disney that another adventure on the high seas was worth their time.
As of yet no casting details or director have been announced, but I find it hard to believe that Disney would go ahead with a fifth film if franchise star Johnny Depp wasn’t somehow already involved. Depp reportedly took home $55 million for his role in the last film, bringing his total earnings for the franchise to about $350 million.
UPDATE: Walt Disney Pictures says that although a fifth film is in development, the story at Caribbean Business is not accurate. How inaccurate remains to be seen, but we’ll keep you posted as the story develops.
