As of last night, the social media embargo for Captain Marvel has been lifted, opening the floodgates for a whole load of glowing responses via Twitter. Naturally, the praise remained largely spoiler-free, though some early viewers did offer the not-so-surprising news that the film will contain a little post-credits content.
Sonaiya Kelley from the LA Times, for instance, had some positive words to say about the pic as a whole, before adding that the movie comes packed with “pre and post credit scenes that made me tear up and gave me goosebumps respectively.” Kelley went on to clarify that the emotional “pre” scene came before the film itself, most likely referring to the opening tribute to the late Stan Lee. Kelley also mentioned that “there are two post credits scenes that are worth staying for and the anticipation for ENDGAME is definitely stoked by this film,” suggesting that Captain Marvel will hint at Carol Danvers’ imminent arrival in present-day MCU.
Though it was pretty much assumed by most fans that Captain Marvel would come with some post-credits material, it’s still nice to get a little confirmation that viewers hoping for an Avengers: Endgame tease won’t be waiting through reams of technical credits in vain.
In any case, while box office projections for Carol Danvers’ solo debut were already pretty promising, the ongoing wave of social media praise for the picture will only add further to the hype. And though the review embargo doesn’t lift until March 5th, it’s safe to say that Marvel Studios has once more earned the favor of the critics. Regardless, you can judge for yourself if Captain Marvel deserves its warm response when the film hits theaters on March 8th, 2019.
