The Monuments Men should easily turn out to be one of the best films of the year. After all, George Clooney and Grant Heslov make a dynamic duo, always putting out entertaining stuff, especially when Clooney directs. Toss in an outstanding cast, with more notable names than any film has had in a while, and it’d be shocking if the result isn’t something truly special. Speaking of that phenomenal cast, they’re the focus of the first poster for the film, which has been made public today.
You can find the poster at the bottom of this article, but basically it’s a handsome piece of film art, showing all the main male members of the cast up against a distressed yellow and black background. Matt Damon is at the forefront, with his various, far past solider age, cast members lined up behind.
In case you’ve managed to gloss over the previous info about this film, the story involves a group of art historians and museum curators who unite to recover important works of art stolen by Nazis. Clooney stars as George Stout, former director of the Gardner Museum while Damon plays James Rorimer, famed art historian and former director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s based on real events, but most of those events have been overlooked in history, so it’s great that this intriguing story is finally getting told.
If you aren’t as excited as I am about The Monuments Men, chances are you haven’t seen the first trailer yet. If that’s the case, you should go watch it now, as it gives a great look at the plot, the cast, and the humor that is present.
In addition to Damon and Clooney, the film stars Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin and John Goodman. It hits theaters December 18th.
