The film nominated for the most upfront spoiler accolade, John Dies At The End, has revealed a new one-sheet which features inspired poster design sorely lacking in cinema today (yes, I’m talking about you entire Twilight Saga).
With a hip pastiche edge which harks back to youthful days at the video store, it reveres to the purpose of a movie poster: to offer a glimpse into the film.
Based upon the 2007 novel by David Wong, John Dies At The End is directed by Don Coscarelli, who brought such B-movie classics as Phantasm and Bubba Ho-Tep to audiences. The novel rests upon a literary tri-genre crossroads; it’s sci-fi, it’s horror and it’s comedy. The closest neighbour on the bookshelf being Jonathan Lethem’s stellar sci-fi crossover, Gun, With Occasional Music.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In John Dies At The End, it’s all about the Soy Sauce, a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. Users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John (Rob Mayes) and David (Chase Williamson), a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can’t.
The adaptation, which also stars Paul Giamatti, warrants cult classic status based on its premise alone and after positive screenings at Sundance and SXSW it may even surpass that.
John Dies At The End will be released On-Demand on December 27th, 2012 and in theaters January 25th, 2013.
