With box office tracking pointing to a massive opening weekend for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the marketing campaign for the highly anticipated release is really beginning to pick up steam. Case in point: today we have a brand new international banner which shows off the Rebels heading into battle against the Empire as the Death Star looms in the background.
It’s a great piece of imagery, and somewhat reminiscent of Star Wars: Battlefront, a video game which allows players to go to war with each other (in fact, some upcoming DLC will take place on Scarif, the planet pictured above). With any luck, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will follow a similar path, especially after conflicting reports coming in about the war elements being toned down.
[zergpaid]Rogue One is going to be a big test for Lucasfilm, as the movie turning out to be anything other than a massive hit could quickly bring an end to their plans to release spinoffs like this every other year. Han Solo is obviously definitely happening, but if this one doesn’t meet expectations, it could ultimately hurt the franchise in the long run.
Thankfully, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story really does look quite great, so here’s hoping it ends up living up to expectations come December 16th.
