The last time Ryan Gosling teamed up with director Nicolas Winding Refn the result was a film called Drive, a stunning and electrifying movie that impressed many. Now, the duo has reunited for a new film titled Only God Forgives.

Though we’ve seen some promo photos and whatnot from the film, it wasn’t until today that we were able to finally get a glimpse of the first trailer. Now that it’s arrived though, we can safely say that from what we see here at least, the film looks every bit as good as the duo’s last effort.

For one, Gosling seems to have made good on his promise that the film will be “more extreme” than Drive. Though not much is seen in the trailer, from the quick glimpses of violence that we get, it does look like this one won’t be for the faint of heart.

I also really dig the whole “dream-like” world that the film seems to take place in. From what we see in the trailer, at least, it all seems very hypnotic and a bit surreal. I’m not sure if that accurately reflects how the film will play out but for now, I like it.

There’s also that haunting narration from Kristin Scott-Thomas and a shot of a very daper looking Ryan Gosling in a three piece suit. Overall, the similarities to Drive are very visible and I think we’re going to be in for another wild ride.

Anyway, enough from me. Check out the trailer and plot summary for Only God Forgives, which opens on July 19th, below and let us know what you think in the comments.
