Cue Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.”
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen half a dozen VFX breakdowns for Avengers: Infinity War – from the Mad Titan’s ruthless torture methods to the final battle on Titan, those in-depth videos left no stone unturned – but the latest showreel journeys all the way back to Thor: Ragnarok and, more specifically, the threequel’s glorious bridge battle.
If Taika Waititi’s end goal involved peeling back the many layers of Marvel’s Norse hero – no hammer, no father, and no place to call home – then the Ragnarok finale was all about reinstating Thor’s title as the one true God of Thunder, one capable of ripping and tearing his way through Hela’s demonic forces without so much as batting an eyelid.
It’s an admittedly short preview of Thor: Ragnarok and its wonderful visual effects work, but considering just how important this moment is to the film’s plot, one which charts the fall and rise of Chris Hemsworth’s Avenger, we’ll be watching this 30-second breakdown over and over until our heart’s content. Now we just need an analysis of Thor’s journey through the Bifrost in Avengers: Infinity War.
Exactly what the future holds for Hemsworth’s hero is another question entirely; he was one of the few characters left standing after the credits rolled on Joe and Anthony Russo’s mega-movie, so we imagine he’ll be among those to enjoy much more screentime come 2019.
And after that? Who knows. Like Chris Evans before him, the Aussie actor is fast approaching the end of his MCU contract, so we’ll just have to adopt a ‘wait and see’ approach when it comes to the future of Marvel’s OG Avengers.
