Not only does the late Carrie Fisher continue to inspire the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX, but she also serves as an important guide for their corresponding characters. At least, that’s what we gather from the various rumors and plot leaks around next year’s sequel, which see General Leia directing her fellow Resistance fighters across the galaxy.
According to a new video from YouTuber Mike Zeroh, all this travel and preparation could be building up to a bold assault on the First Order, and what’s more, the Resistance have been saving up one last trump card for this clash.
But first, let’s rewind a little. Naturally, everything you’re about to read should be taken with a grain of salt, but according to Zeroh, a recent plot leak indicates that the First Order’s current leader, Kylo Ren, intends to conquer the Unknown Region, a part of the galaxy that had previously been untouched by regime’s influence. While Poe, Finn, and the rest of the Resistance meet up with potential allies – including famed crime syndicate, the Hutts – the First Order have established their new headquarters in the Unknown Region where they continue to build up their army.
Refreshingly, it’s said that the villains this time have no plans for constructing yet another super weapon in the vein of the Death Star and the Starkiller Base. Honestly, after three Star Wars episodes that have based their conflict around this exact premise, it would probably be a wise move for J.J. Abrams to avoid this plot point if he wants to keep things fresh.
That being said, the Resistance this time will reportedly have a pretty impressive weapon of their own, but one that can only be used once. Like a bottle of fine wine, this weapon has been saved for the very special occasion that is the assault on the First Order’s headquarters, allowing our heroes to break through the first line of defense and maybe start toppling this dictatorship.
Of course, as far as we know, J.J. Abrams could end up taking things in a very different direction with the upcoming film, but this still sounds like a worthy basis for an explosive setpiece. I guess we’ll see how closely this rumor fits with the real thing when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
