If you’re sick of a world without Rio 2, then feel free to be sick no longer as the first trailer for the film has been released online, courtesy of Blue Sky Studios. The team behind the Ice Age series and Horton Hears A Who! are set to release Epic into cinemas next week, but have wasted no time in getting young mouths salivating even more than usual over the prospect of a second helping of crazy globetrotting bird adventures.
If that clip has your heart a-fluttering, then here’s the blurb containing what will hopefully be a vague plot synopsis:
Blu, Jewel and their three kids [are] living the perfect domesticated life in that magical city [Rio]. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild.
You can find the full press release here – for those too lazy to click the link, and to allay fears that Will.I.Am’s recent business success means that he is now above this sort of thing, the returning cast includes Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jamie Foxx, Jermaine Clement, Tracy Morgan and yes – Will.I.Am. New cast members include Bruno Mars, Andy Garcia, and Kristen Chenoweth in as of yet unspecified roles. What sort of bird would have Andy Garcia’s voice? Surely the avocet. If any bird were to have Andy Garcia’s voice, it would be the avocet. How could it not be the avocet?
The original Rio was a sunburst of colour in an otherwise drab animated world. Sure, Rio 2 will have to work hard to impress in a post-Wreck-It Ralph animated landscape, but it will absolutely be up to the task. Tropical birds are still cool, right?
Rio 2 is due for release internationally starting on March 20th 2014, and in the US on April 11, 2014, giving you almost a whole year to decide which bird would have Kristen Chenoweth’s voice – surely it’d be the ptarmigan. How could it not be the ptarmigan?
