In order to gear up for tomorrow’s full-length trailer, Paramount Pictures has published a short teaser for its upcoming reboot-cum-sequel, Terminator: Genisys. While brief, the footage hints at a global nuclear strike — Skynet, we assume — futuristic tech and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the famous cyborg.
This comes hot on the heels of yesterday’s eerie motion poster, which had an endoskeleton slowly disintegrating into the sand of an hour glass — a rather apt time motif, basically — for Genisys will stay true to the Terminator legacy by revolving around a time-travelling story. Mind you, Alan Taylor’s film will mix up the famous narrative somewhat by having Emilia Clarke’s Sarah Connor grow up in the shadow of Schwarzenegger’s no-nonsense android from an early age, as opposed to encountering him at a later stage in her life.
Up until now, much has been said about the marketing campaign for Terminator: Genisys, with ardent fans of the sci-fi classic labelling the recent still photos as bland and uninspired. However, Paramount Pictures will look to swing the pendulum back in their favor with the world premiere of the film’s first trailer tomorrow and from this recent tease, we’re staying hopeful.
Terminator: Genisys will hope to resurrect a dormant classic when it arrives in theaters on July 1, 2015. For now, let us know what you make of Alan Taylor’s ambitious reboot in the comments below.
The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.
