Though fans can expect to see the many corners of the Marvel Cinematic Universe come together in May’s Avengers: Infinity War, there are still a few types of superhero crossovers that a certain subset of Marvel lovers would give anything to witness. For instance, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers sharing a romantic moment under the mistletoe at Christmas. While you’re likely not going to see that in Avengers 4, Robert Downey Jr. is thankfully on hand to make dreams come true.
On Christmas Day, the man behind Iron Man shared a fan made photo edit as a special holiday message to his followers. “Merry Christmas, everyone! (Who put that mistletoe there??),” Downey wrote, followed by a generous credit to the original artist – coppersand of Tumblr.
As you can see, the edit takes an image of Downey Jr. and Captain America star Chris Evans and gives it a Christmas-y, romantic twist. The two actors are wearing Santa hats and surrounded by festive stars as they stand gazing at each other under a mistletoe. The icing on the cake is the addition of Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland, pictured beside the pair.
As things stand on screen right now, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers’ friendship is certainly not as cosy as Downey and Evans’ relationship in this photo. The last time we saw the characters in Captain America: Civil War, Iron Man and Cap went to battle, which ended with Steve going into hiding as a fugitive. In Infinity War, though, Tony and Steve will have to bury the hatchet and team up once again to face their greatest challenge yet: Thanos the Mad Titan, who’s come to Earth to collect the all-powerful Infinity Stones.
You can see Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans together once again – but probably not under a mistletoe – on screen in Avengers: Infinity War, which lands in cinemas on May 4th, 2018.
