As fans across the world process the news that Stan Lee has passed away, the internet is continuing to flood with tributes to the late comic book creator.
In this wave of reverent social media responses, we’ve already had some heartfelt posts from stars as big as Mark Hamill, and it comes as no surprise to see that plenty of MCU regulars are also taking a moment to share their thoughts on this sad news. Robert Downey Jr., for instance, has taken to Instagram with a photo of himself and Lee, along with a caption that thanks the legendary writer for his unparalleled contributions to comic book history:
“I owe it all to you,,, Rest In Peace Stan…”
For many a filmgoer, Downey and his MCU alter ego are practically inseparable, with 2008’s Iron Man helping to popularize a superhero that much of the public still knew little about, while also doing huge favors for the actor’s often-tumultuous career. Given the role played by Lee in making Marvel and Iron Man what they are today, it’s not hard to see where Downey’s coming from in his statement.
Over on Twitter, the actor’s Avengers: Infinity War co-star Chris Evans has offered a tribute of his own that reflects on Lee’s game-changing contributions to the comic book world before signing off with the writer’s famous catchphrase:
“There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!”
You can expect to see plenty more comments like these in the coming days, with the work of Stan Lee resonating with fans and artists across generations. Though the man himself may be gone, his influence on pop culture will remain in our midst for many years to come.
