Today marks 23 years since Tom Holland of Spider-Man fame first came into this world, and amidst the flood of birthday messages received by the performer is a tweet from his Avengers: Endgame co-star Robert Downey Jr.
The Iron Man actor’s post consists of a GIF from 2016’s Captain America: Civil War along with the following message:
“@TomHolland1996 from ’Underoos’ to overlord, it’s been a thrill to watch you rise, and we’re all pretty darned glad u were born”
Indeed, Peter Parker has come a long way since his MCU debut, and his journey is set to continue next month with Spider-Man: Far From Home. In particular, the trailers indicate that the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will see Peter continue to process the death of Downey’s character, while wrestling with the notion of becoming “the next Iron Man.”

In fact, we can expect the events of Avengers: Endgame to ripple through Far From Home in more ways than one. For example, one of the biggest changes that the Avengers: Infinity War sequel brought to the MCU was the resurrection of half the universe’s population five years after the snap. This development means that while half the universe has aged half a decade since Peter’s demise, Spidey and many of his classmates are still in school.
On top of that, the trailers indicate that the snap ripped a hole in Peter’s dimension, opening up the MCU to the wider multiverse. The upcoming film will even see the wall-crawler find a new mentor of sorts in Mysterio, who claims to be from another Earth. Of course, it’s practically a given that Jake Gyllenhaal’s famously deceptive character isn’t all he appears to be, but we’ll find out just what he’s hiding when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2nd.
