There’s always a brand new spin on Bram Stoker’s Dracula lurking around the corner, which comes with the territory when the iconic vampire is one of the two most heavily-adapted fictional characters in history alongside Sherlock Holmes, but ChloĆ© Zhao’s in-development movie could be one of the most batsh*t insane yet.
It’s incredibly difficult to paint the broad strokes of the Transylvanian native’s stories in new colors when the ground has been so well-trodden in the past, but upcoming horror The Last Voyage of the Demeter focusing on an unexplained part of the source material indicates that it can still happen on occasion.
However, the Academy Award-winning director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Eternals is planning to tear up the rulebook with her futuristic sci-fi Western version of the legendary tale, and a new rumor claims that Robert Pattinson is in talks to star in the lead role, which would double down on his increasingly obvious love of bats given his current status as Matt Reeves’ Dark Knight.
Of course, it’s only speculation at this stage, but the actor has established himself as eccentric and idiosyncratic enough at this point that nobody would be all that surprised were he to tackle such a bonkers iteration of a pop culture monolith, and it’d be worth the price of admission alone to see what Pattinson would bring to the part of a dystopian Dracula.
It’s nowhere close to being official, though, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to see it.
