The first photo of Robin Williams as president Dwight D. Eisenhower for The Butler has emerged and we have it here for you, courtesy of the New York Daily News. This is the second image of one of the actors in character that we’ve had the privilege of seeing, the first one being of Forest Whitaker.
I must say, Williams looks even more like Ike than I imagined, and it really doesn’t look like much was done with makeup or prosthetics. I guess it helps that the 61-year-old Williams is roughly the same age as Eisenhower was when he entered the White House (Ike was 62 at the time).
Williams is one of the presidents I’m most excited to see for this film. It seems that his talent as an actor is sometimes overshadow by the focus on his comedic roles, but anyone who has seen One Hour Photo knows just how remarkable of an actor Williams is even when not looking for laughs.
That isn’t to say I’m not completely thrilled to see the other presidents in the film. John Cusack as Nixon, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan, and James Marsden as JFK should all be a treat to watch.
With each piece released from The Butler it looks more and more like this amazing ensemble film is a strong awards contender and a certain must-see. You can be sure I’ll be in theaters the day it releases.
