Ready to roll out? With a June 23rd release date fast approaching, the new and seemingly final trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight has arrived online – and it’s a doozy.
Taking a deep dive into the history of those iconic robots in disguise, the promo opens with a shot of ancient Transformers drawing their metallic swords alongside King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and the knights of the roundtable. True to early rumors, Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel upholds tradition in that it takes a key moment from human history and gives it a revisionist twist. And so, after incorporating the Hoover Dam and the Apollo 11 Moon mission into the TF timeline, Bay and his writing team have pinpointed the legend of King Arthur, and up above you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the film’s truly spectacular medieval battle sequences.
Assuming Michael Bay stays true to his word, and history tells us that he might not, The Last Knight will be remembered as his final entry into the Transformers series, and all signs point to the filmmaker going out with a bang. Whether that translates to box office success, though, is another question entirely. With Optimus Prime and Bumblebee headlining the ‘bots, The Last Knight‘s human cast is comprised of Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro and the up-and-coming Isabela Moner.
“For my world to live, yours must die.” On June 23rd, Transformers: The Last Knight will launch into theaters and herald something of a fresh start for Paramount’s treasured live-action tentpole, though whether Michael Bay has a role to play in that future continues to be a point of contention. That largely comes down to the director himself, who vacillates between walking away from the series and circling back to helm one last film. Could Bay be appointed at the helm of a Transformers spinoff, for instance? Time will tell.
