Another day, another Rogue One media dump to peruse. On this particular occasion, Disney and Lucasfilm have lifted the lid on not one, but two enticing promos for the Gareth Edwards-directed pic, with the second TV spot teasing the return of another iconic Star Wars villain – and no, we’re not referring to the rasping Darth Vader.
First and foremost, and in the interest of keeping spoilers at bay, let’s focus on the all-new featurette. Entitled “Living in Star Wars,” the footage up above largely revolves around Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he spearheads the Rebel fight on Scarif, the tropical planet on which much of Edwards’ anthology movie appears to take place. Andor, a chief Alliance Intelligence officer, is one of Rogue One‘s key players alongside Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, and we even get to see shots of those two heroes going undercover to infiltrate the Empire and, ultimately, get their hands on those all-important Death Star schematics.
Spoilers to follow….
Switching gears to that aforementioned TV spot, it appears eagle-eyed fans have found evidence that Grand Moff Tarkin does indeed feature in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and that Gareth Edwards and his VFX team will implement some cutting-edge CGI to bring back the iconic Imperial leader first played by the late, great Peter Cushing.
This aligns with something John Knoll, executive producer and visual effects supervisor, told Entertainment Weekly in a previous interview: “I have to tread lightly there because some of the fun bits of innovation are stuff that I’ve been asked not to talk about yet. You know, we want to hold that back.”
Could that “fun bit of innovation” revolve around Tarkin? After watching the latest Rogue One: A Star Wars Story promo, we’re inclined to believe so. December 16 is the date for your diaries.
