Rupert Grint rose to fame after the first ‘Harry Potter’ film was released and has continued to have a successful career thanks to the franchise. He plays character Ron Weasley on the franchise and has not gotten the full attention from audiences he deserves. Some legendary director on the other hand believes that Rupert Grint stole the show in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
According to Film Blog, Martin Scorsese, director of such classics as ‘Raging Bull’, and ‘Goodfellas’ just to name a few, has recognized the talent Rupert Grint has brought to the screen in all the ‘Harry Potter’ films and believes he has the potential to succeed outside the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise.
“I thought he was great in the Harry Potter movies – in a lot of scenes, the boy stole the show,” stated the director. “He will always have respect for the movies that gave him such a huge break, but at his age it’s important he doesn’t become typecast. He has to do something really out of his comfort zone in the next few years – play a gangster, play a dirty cop, play a kid with learning difficulties.”
Martin Scorsese would love to have Rupert to play a key role in one of his upcoming films.
“I would be very interested in working with him. I would have no issues in casting him as a gangster. He is a very talented young man.” He than goes on to compare the young actor to a young Leonardo Dicaprio. “When he was in Romeo and Juliet, nobody saw him becoming a badass in movies like The Departed. But he has become one of the greatest actors of all time. The very same could be true for Rupert.”
Rupert Grint can be seen in the last 2 ‘Harry Potter’ films set to release November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011. He will also play the main role in “Eddie the Eagle”, the hysterical true life story of Britain’s most famous ski jumper Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards and his journey to Olympic fame, set to release sometime in 2011.
Do you agree with Martin and believe Rupert Grint has the potential to become the next Leonardo Dicaprio?
