What’s the title of Avengers 4? That’s been a major mystery for Marvel fans ever since the film’s original moniker – simply Avengers: Infinity War – Part Two – was removed. We’d thought it might arrive once Infinity War hit cinemas, but even though the movie’s now here for all to see, there’s still no sign of the title materializing.
We’ve previously been promised by the Russo brothers, however, that when we eventually get to find out what Avengers 4 is called it’ll scare us. And now, in a new interview with Bustle, they’ve provided us with another hint as to the title. As well as promising that they definitely do have a name for it, Anthony teased that, whatever it is, it sums up the story perfectly.
“We do have a name for it, we’re just not announcing it. And I think we came to that name fairly early in the development process. It speaks to the heart of the story.”
The filmmakers have previously revealed that Avengers 4‘s title was not made public prior to Infinity War as it’s something of a spoiler for that movie’s ending. Having now seen seen the film, though, we can at least hazard a guess as to what it would spoil.
Without going into details, the often suggested Avengers: Dissembled is looking like a very strong contender. As well being the name of a comic book arc, the title is a clever play on the famous Avengers catchphrase – as well as a reverse of Avengers Assemble, which is what the 2012 team-up movie was called in some territories.
We won’t know for sure if we’re on the right track here, though, until Marvel deems it the right time to lift the lid, and who knows when that could be? Even Kevin Feige has said that he sort of wishes that they’d just revealed what Avengers 4 is called before now, as the speculation has got so intense that whatever it is won’t live up to all the hype. He’s probably right, but that doesn’t mean we’re any less eager to find out what it’ll end up being.
