After getting snubbed at this year’s Oscars for his marvelous role in Blue Valentine, Ryan Gosling might be able to earn a nomination in the highly anticipated George Clooney directed film, The Ides of March. Though it is too early to tell and there isn’t really any Oscar buzz surrounding it as of now, the film does boast an impressive cast. Aside from Gosling and Clooney, The Ides of March also stars Jeffrey Wright, Marisa Tomei, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood and Paul Giamatti.
Today we get the first image from the film, which features Gosling next to a Barack Obama-esque poster of Clooney. Based on the play Farragut North by Beau Willimon, Gosling plays Stephen Myers, a press secretary for presidential hopeful Governor Mike Morris (Clooney), who gets involved in dirty politics when approached by rival Tom Duffy (Giamatti).
The film opens the Venice Film Festival on August 31st and will have a U.S. release on October 7th. No trailer has been released yet, but we’ll be sure to post it once it hits the internet.
